Game Day

Monday, June 30 | TV: FSN-HD, ESPN | Radio: KTRS 550
Busch Stadium | 6:05 PM CT

ARI John Maine, RHP (8-5, 3.73)
Mets (40-41)
@ STL Kyle Lohse, RHP (9-2, 3.94)
Cardinals (47-36)

Pitching Matchup:

Maine did what he always seems to do, pitching a solid six innings on Wednesday while only allowing two runs on five hits. But Maine is still searching for the second wind that will get him into the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, as he has only pitched more than 6 2/3 innings once, which was an 8 1/3 start on May 7 at the Dodgers. That isn't to say Maine doesn't chuck his share of pitches, as Wednesday's 102 pitches upped the number of times he's hit triple digits to 13 of his 16 starts this season.

Lohse's six-start winning streak came to an end with a no-decision, but he still hasn't been the losing pitcher in a game since May 8. He just didn't have anything his last time out. Upon his return home, and against a lineup that is a bit less daunting than Detroit's, there's good reason to expect a return to June form. Lohse may still have a shot at an All-Star berth if everything falls his way.

Tuesday, July 1 | TV: FSN-HD | Radio: KTRS 550
Busch Stadium | 7:15 PM CT

ARI Tony Armas, RHP (0-0, -.--)
Mets (40-41)
@ STL Todd Wellemeyer, RHP (7-2, 3.46)
Cardinals (47-36)

Pitching Matchup:

Armas will probably get the call up from Triple-A for a fill-in start on Tuesday, and, depending on how he pitches, the 30-year-old veteran could potentially assume the long-relief role for the Mets in place of fellow callup Carlos Muniz. In 16 appearances with New Orleans, Armas is 5-6 with a 2.50 ERA, striking out 88 batters and walking 20 in 100 2/3 innings of work. If he were to face the Cardinals, he is a career 3-2 against them with a 3.98 ERA in nine meetings, seven of those being starts.

Wellemeyer's return to action after missing time with a sore elbow was a success. He had a very good fastball and slider, and he believes his changeup won't be far behind. He was handled gently in his first start back, throwing only 76 pitches. Expect a longer leash this time around.

Wednesday, July 2 | TV: FSN-HD | Radio: KTRS 550
Busch Stadium | 7:15 PM CT

ARI Pedro Martinez, RHP (2-2, 7.12)
Mets (40-41)
@ STL Todd Wellemeyer, RHP (7-2, 3.46)
Cardinals (47-36)

Pitching Matchup:

Martinez's start in the second game of Friday's Subway Series doubleheader was a struggle, as he surrendered six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. For the second consecutive start, Martinez gave up six runs, and he has now permitted 12 runs in his last 10 innings. The 36-year-old came out of Friday's start saying he was tipping off some of his pitches, an issue he will look to correct heading into his next start vs. the Cardinals. He's an even 4-4 against St. Louis in his career, with a 3.27 ERA in 77 innings of work.

Thursday, July 3 | TV: FSN | Radio: KTRS 550
Busch Stadium | 7:15 PM CT

ARI Mike Pelfrey, RHP (5-6, 4.47)
Mets (40-41)
@ STL Joel Pineiro, RHP (2-3, 4.33)
Cardinals (47-36)

Pitching Matchup:

Pelfrey gave up four earned runs in five innings of work vs. the Yankees on Friday, but it was enough for him to get his third straight win. The Yankees were able to scatter eight hits off of Pelfrey, but he never folded, doing just enough with plenty of run support working him through the Mets? 15-6 drubbing of the Bronx Bombers in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Pelfrey pitched the best month of his 2008 campaign in June, compiling a 3.52 ERA in 30 2/3 innings of work. He?ll face the Cardinals next, who he has never faced.

Pineiro's line from his last start wasn't pretty, but one very good thing stands out about his last three: he's gone at least seven innings each time. Considering the load that the St. Louis bullpen has carried, that's a victory in itself. Still, Pineiro could really use some reinforcement in the form of a win. He hasn't recorded once since April, and this start will take place in July. That's too long.

Forum Pruning

Posted by Hosscat (Admin) at Feb 23 2009, 03:07 PM. 3 comments

We have moved some forums around and cleaned things up a bit.

We left the top 3 forums as-is. The Silver Slugger forums were done away with, at least for now as they weren't being used. Your titles will remain, though. The Sports and Gaming/Trivia forums were merged into the Off Topic Forum. So, all of the fantasy info and such is now in the Off Topic forum. The intent here is to make it so you only have to check a couple forums the get to the info you want. If the site becomes more active and more forums are needed, we'll cross that bridge then.

We welcome any feedback/suggestions.
