Mulder (14-6 3.87) vs. Fogg (6-8 5.07) Scouting Report: Mulder returns to the site of his first win as a Cardinal: PNC Park. With the exception of one hiccup against the Cubs at Wrigley, he's been rolling lately, allowing two or fewer runs in eight of his last 10 starts. Mulder is 6-1 since late June, and he's permitted a total of two homers in his last eight starts (53 1/3 innings). Since limiting the Marlins to one run in six innings on June 1, Fogg has gone 2-5 in 14 starts while watching his ERA jump from 4.12 to 5.07. On Wednesday against the Mets, Fogg allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings in a 5-1 loss at Shea Stadium. Fogg has dropped seven of his eight career starts against the Cardinals. |

He's been cold lately, but I wouldn't worry. As long as Pujols is healthy I probably won't ever worry about his hitting. His swing seems fine, he's just expanding his zone and pulling off pitches. On a couple of at bats in the game it seemed like he was trying to pull outside pitches instead of taking them the other way, resulting in weakly hit balls. He has such a great understanding of his own swing I would guess he will bounce back quickly, as he always has. Another good outing by Mulder, and anyone see Gooch's 'deke' in the outfield? Even when he makes a mental error it seems to benefit the team...Just hope he doesn't do it again!:).

Agreed on both points, Mulder and Walker. Before the game I was hoping for good nights from both of these two. We already know Molina is back and ready to go, I was a little worried about Walker. His swing and play in the field looked great last night. |
