Ok as you guys probably know the STLCardinalsForum.com domain has expired, the board creator MVP=Pujols does not have internet access anymore and is unaware of the problem. Unfortunately we are unable to contact him, and without his assistance we are unable to renew the current domain name.

So we need a new name, and i would like you guys to help us choose it.

I said stlcardinalsforum.net, i figure that way the site name really doesnt change and the banners can stay the same.

I would personally agree.

The reality is I hope that eventually MVP will renew the domain once he realizes what happened, then we can go back to the original domain.

Well I bought the .net domain, and it is now functioning.

I will send a mass email shortly.

If we ever get the chance to get the .com back, I wouldn't mind putting forth the money for that so both would work. I just now figured out how to get back to the site after several days hoping to get ahold of MVP. Reserving a domain name is rather inexpensive. Thanks for taking care of this Ronin.

Once a domain expires, it goes in to a "limbo" period for 30-60 days where it costs $80 for the original owner to recover. So it may be a while before you can pick it back up again.

Yes, I am aware. Maybe we'll just move on to .net and not look back. We'll see.

I would prefer to have the .com name back as well.

goDaddy is offering the .com domain on backorder for 18.99. Maybe we should chip in a few bucks each, and get on the backorder.

When would it become available and what is your address? I'll send you however much you need.

Is 18.99 just to get rights to the domain or does that reserve it for a year or so? I've paid $20 for 5 years on a domain before. And of course, I'd chip in as well.

18.99 is what the domain would cost for the first year. I guess they want more for it since its not available so they think its in higher demand. I only paid 8 for the .net name.

I say we wait till the 60 day period is almost up, hopefully before then someone can get in touch with Aaron, and we can just renew it.

How do the advertisements on this site work? Does godaddy reserve the right to advertise?

The ads are done by invisionfree... not godaddy.

They pay for it by allowing us to use the IPB software(what runs these boards) for free.

Keep in mind that there are lots of lists on the internet of "domains expiring" and how much traffic they get, and there are a LOT of domain junkies out there, so the domain may be being watched.

I'd look in to the GoDaddy process, and see if that $18.99 actually guarantees that you get the domain.

Inviosionfree hosts the forum. so all the disc space, bandwidth, and software costs are supported by advertisements.

If you get firefox, and the adblock extension, youll never see them though.

They don't bother me. I was just wondering if a host could make money off a website such as this through advertisements.

yes its possible.

Although its not really making money per se. It is more covering the costs involved in running a website.
