Wouldn't have been so surprised if this has happened in November, but with all that has been going on, I am certainly surprised to hear about this now and to hear that they have no plans for anything else...... I mean, Kennedy may not have been Chase Utley, but he certainly would have been nice insurance in case you know, Skip "I haven't played 2nd base in 10 years" Schumaker can't cut it.....

The way Albert plays 1st base, they really don't need a 2nd baseman.

Am I the only one that finds this, well, extremely, extremely odd?

LOL, yeah. So this is surprising for sure. He must have really pissed someone off or he was just that unhappy that he was going to cause problems in the clubhouse.

I'm a little surprised here too guys. I'm not really sad about it, but it's odd. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best. Atleast we have guys like Barden and Ryan if this experiment doesn't work out.

Doesnt make a lot of sense. If i remember correctly, when we were shopping AK we had trouble finding anyone that would take on most of his salary. If we could have dealt him and covered even most of his salary we could have at least got something in return. I'm sure Mo and Co. have gone over this in retrospect but it does seem odd...

I just can't imagine not calling up a team and saying we will give you AK, pay 75% of his due, and take anyone you want to throw at us. Good deal or bad deal, it would have been better than eating 4 mil for nothing.

We will soon see if this theory is correct. I believe after releasing a player, other teams have to wait 4 days before talking with the player to avoid penalty or whatever. After that time he is unrestricted and fair game. If someone was willing to give up $1 mil and a prospect, they surely will jump at the chance to get him for no prospects and $500K or whatever it is.

I think AW has it right here. Teams that were interested in him were most likely going to just say no and force us to either keep him or release him. They knew that they'd spend a lot less on him that way.

Why would any team assume we would release him? Now it makes sense, but back then it would be hard to convince me that anyone saw us releasing Kennedy. If our own FO would have forecast a release they wouldnt have publicly said that the terms of a trade couldnt be agreed on earlier this winter.

Because we'd either release him or keep him.....

It's no skin off their necks if we keep him, but an all gain if we release him. They don't want to give up practically anything to get him anyway.... so why just hand it over.

It's sort of an economical issue. If you have to give up much, you don't really need.

Just kind of my insane way of looking at it. Don't want to much pork in the payroll.

i bet this article was one reason teams thought we might be trying to part ways with him.....

I guess what we learned from this one is the best way to trade a marginal player is to make it look like we want to keep him while shopping him. Maybe if we didn't publicly state we were committed to trading him we might have found a suitor. Overall this move was terribly played out over the winter.

so, it looks as if skip has the inside track for the 2B job. What do you all think? Kennedy was a very good defender.....so, even if he is average (which is unlikely) on defense, he's still going to have to make up quite a bit on offense.....

TLR said he would be an average two bagger defensively. The last perosn he said would come out of ST 'average' was Chris Duncan for the outfield.

Kennedy just signed a minor league contract with the Rays. No one in baseball would give him a major league contract. I think we can say with a certain degree of certainty now that no one was willing to give up anything for Kennedy, let alone eat 1 mil of his contract if no one even signed him for the minimum.....

I hadn't seen that AW. That's rather peculiar. I figured with all the talk about teams like Arizona showing interest that maybe someone actually needed him.

Hmmm, guess I'll just give Skip all the praise I can for trying.

Look at the official websites board the day kennedy was released. They would have not only fired Mo but hung him by the nuts the day this happened.

I think we can say that most of the rumors during the offseason are just that: rumors. Let's wait and see what happens. The GMs and press are lying or trying to create a story or shift attention or whatever 90% of the time if not more, so..... we can only see what happens as it unfolds
