The St. Louis Cardinals embark on their first road trip of the year as they travel to Arizona. The Cardinals will luck out in this series, missing both Webb and Haren's spots in the rotation. However, they do get a soft tossing lefty in Doug Davis (Game 1) and meet up with the very tough Jon Garland (Game 3).

The Cardinals head into this series atop the Central by a half game; with a record of 5-2. At 2-4, the Diamondbacks sit fourth in their division; 2.5 games back.

Here's a look at today's pitching match-up from mlb.com:

Monday, April 13 Chase Field | 8:40 PM CT

Todd Wellemeyer, RHP (0-1, 9.00)
Cardinals (5-2) @ Doug Davis, LHP (0-1, 7.20)
Diamondbacks (2-4)

Scouting Report:
Cardinals: Wellemeyer hasn't really been quite right at any point this year, whether it be in Spring Training or his first start. He's identified a mechanical key that he believes will solve the issue, so the hope is that he'll be sorted out in time for Monday's game. He'll need to be, as he's pitching in one of the National League's most hitter-friendly ballparks.
Diamondbacks: Davis did not have one of his better outings on Wednesday as he allowed four runs on four hits in five innings and the D-backs lost to the Rockies, 9-2, at Chase Field. Things didn't start on a good note for the left-hander as he allowed a home run to Dexter Fowler on the game's first pitch. He settled in for a couple of innings after that, but the Rockies were able to put up a three spot against him in the fourth. Davis was limited to 146 innings last year, his lowest total since 2003, due to a battle with thyroid cancer. This spring, he was set back with some soreness in his left triceps, but by the end of spring seemed to be fine.

Decent little ballgame tonight. Wellemeyer pitched very well. Brendan Ryan had a nifty play over at 2B.

Oh, and... ho hum... Albert went YARD!

A frustrating game last night. I was hoping we could sneak in and sweep the D-Backs early in the season when they have been struggling to hit. It seems like they always beat us in the late innings.

No reason for Brendan Ryan to be hitting there in the ninth, especially with Ludwick on the bench. I dont care if Ludwick has a high K rate, the guy is clutch and has a lot better chance of at least a sac fly than Brendan had. Using Thompson and Ryan with the game on the line cost us the game.

Should've been Ludwick last night. I was very upset when I saw Ryan step to the plate.

No doubt in my mind that we should've won last night.

They made up for it today though.... although I'd like to see less runs allowed. On to Chicago!
